University student dies due to doctor’s ‘negligence’!

A 19-year-old university student named Mehbahul Haque Lalon has died due to negligence of clinic authorities and doctors in a hand-breaking operation in Thakurgaon. The incident took place on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Mehbahul Haque Lalon, son of Jalai Mandal of Raipur village under Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. He was a first-year student of the Department of Statistics, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.

Lalon’s elder brother Biplob said, “Lalon broke his right arm while playing football a month and a half ago. He was treated by a local Kabiraj but when he felt mild pain from time to time, he showed it to orthopedic doctor Zillur Rahman Siddique on Wednesday morning. Asked to be admitted to the city’s Delta Clinic. Admitted there in the afternoon. I had to lose my brother at night. ‘

Lalon’s brother-in-law Mojibur Rahman said, “There was a lot of talk before Lalon was taken to the operation theater after 10 pm on Wednesday. I repeatedly told Lalon is there any problem? Lalon said, Dulabhai, I don’t have any other problem, there is nothing to be afraid of hand operation. After giving an injection in the operating theater, Lalon gradually lost consciousness. ‘

He further said, ‘Later the clinic authorities said that Lalon’s mild problem should be taken to Dinajpur. They quickly picked up the ambulance and moved away. He died on the way even though he was breathing lightly. After seeing Lalon’s condition worse, they moved us there to live on their own. ‘

Lalon’s father Jalai Mandal said, ‘The doctor said, light operation, I took the boy for that. If I had known earlier, I would not have taken my son to the butcher’s house. I could not imagine that a healthy boy would be lost in a hand operation. I admitted my son to the university with many dreams, my dream became empty. ‘

Clinic authorities and operation doctor Zillur Rahman declined to comment. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Tanvirul Islam said necessary action would be taken if any complaint was received.
